SHE flirts with a tragicomic writing style but she freezes and frees her criticism with substance and human depth. 296-303.WHO IS THE BEST ON STAGE CABARET PERFORMER? WHO WAS OR IS THE BEST SALLY BOWLES?

296-303. So many readers in the UK asked me who is the best cabaret entertainer  in the United States? And I replied: "There is no such thing as the best cabaret entertainer!" For the world of cabaret is immense and so is its personification on stage. Some artists are singers, purely singers with occasional appearances on the screen or on the tube, but they are typically cabaret singers, such as Amanda McBroom, Andrea Marcovicci, Anna Bergman, Caroline Nin et al. Others are cabaret concert artists like Barbara Cook, Kate Westbrook...Read

In her teenage years, Jane modeled and was a very keen dancer, until a knee injury in 1981 forced her to pursue her acting talents and partake in less strenuous dancing.  Read

312-315.AMERICAN CABARET VERSUS EUROPEAN CABARET: CABARET is a French product. It cannot be authentically duplicated, franchised or Americanized, no matter, how talented and creative an American female artist is. It can be Americanized, Africanized, Middle Easternized or even “nationalized”, but it would never be the same, for it will loose its original cache and character. Cabaret is for the French what hamburger, ketchup, stocks, mortgages, Campbell Soup Cans, blue jeans, patriotism, politics,  college basketball, courage and football are for the Americans. Read

JAZZ, CABARET AND POP STARS IN NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA

317.NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA’S CABARET, JAZZ AND POP LEADING STARS: Do the French, German, British and American  chanteuses maintain the monopoly of cabaret excellence and world-class performance? Not necessarily. Canada, New Zealand and Australia gave to the world remarkable Opera, Pop and Cabaret singers. So, cabaret is no longer  a French property. And Jazz is no longer an American monopoly. Foreign singers from various parts of the world are now challenging American Jazz and pop singers. The leading figures are...Read

324-327.BETWEEN CABARET AND OPERA: Talking about Cabaret without referring to Opera would be a musical betrayal, for OPERA originated folk music and cabaret repertoires. Contrary to the general belief, Opera did not come to life as a CLASSICAL ART PLATFORM. It was created in the streets and tavernas of small cities and towns in Italy, as well as in small "Relais" and "boites de plaisance" in France to entertain the high society and the middle society as well. In many small Italian villages, Opera was the favorite musical attraction and form of entertainment for the farmers, peasants and even the poor class. Thus, paying homage to the early Divas of the American Opera and including them in this work is very a propos. Read

329-331.EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A JAZZ SINGER. THE BEST OF JAZZ/POP. It seems everybody wants to be a jazz singer nowadays. People of all ages turn up at 'open mic' sessions to perform their party piece. But why this sudden eruption of would-be vocalists? Maybe because singing looks easier than playing an instrument, although it isn't. Or maybe it's because there are so many good jazz singers in Britain to inspire them.
