When it comes to Cabaret, and cabaret repertoire, the Parisians (From the early days of Le Chat Noire to the remnants of Aristide Bruant's movement),  the French wrote the book on the subject and on how to describe or call an engaging and successful cabaret singer.

They called her: Chanteuse, raconteuse, even diseuse. Verbatim: Singer, story-teller, talker. For they believed that Cabaret is an inner part of the fabric of real life with its ups and downs. Nowadays, very few cabaret singers (Chanteuses) in the world echo this bleeding reality, and can claim to be an authentic CABARET SINGER. In the United States, we have Ann Hampton Callaway, Andrea Marcovicci. In  Italy, we had the legendary Gabriella Ferri. France had Catherine Sauvage, Line Renauld, Josephine Baker and Mistinguett. And today, in the U.K. and on the world stage one name shines brighter than the lights of Picadilly Circus: Barb Jungr. She is the real thing, because she invites her audience to live the lyrics, the lines, the music and episodes of the song. In other words, Barb, her voice, her stage presence, her wit and humor, her jokes and personal stories, her pianist or accordionist, the audience, even the lighting system blend together, melt together, integrate in perfect harmony and in sync with the soul of the songs and what evolved around the creation of the song and the music.
