Al Jolson superstar of 1927 “The Jazz Singer” directed by Alan Crosland. Indeed, it was an historic milestone film and cinematic landmark. It should be noted that this film was not the first sound film, nor the first 'talkie' film or even the first movie musical, as many historians and cinema commentators assume. The 1926 Don Juan (1926), a John Barrymore silent film, was the first film to use sound effects by Vitaphone, and a synchronized musical score by the New York Philharmonic.
