Here's a second chance to see those critically acclaimed films that

open dialogue with our host/moderator Michael DiGennaro, Ph.D. Dr.
DiGennaro is a distinguished member of the Mamaroneck High School

an Ethiopian boy who is airlifted from a Sudanese refugee camp to
Israel in 1984 during Operation Moses. Shlomo Is plagued by two big
secrets. He is neither a Jew nor an orphan, just an African boy who
survived and wants to fulfill his mother’s parting request that he
“go, live, and become.” Bouyed by a profound and unfaltering motherly
love – both in memory and with his adoptive mother - he ultimately
finds an identity and a happiness all his own. “…Rewarding, rich in
humor and warmth, and abuzz with the turmoil of juggling multiple

This is a sensitive, lovely portrait of modern Jewish life in the
diaspora. After the death of Rose, the secular matriarch who believed
the tango would make all troubles disappear, a family of assimilated
Belgian Jews struggle with defining their Judaism, their family and
themselves. There are three generations of the Rashevski family, each
of which has experienced the major forces of its era, -the Holocaust,
growing up in wartorn Europe and assimilation and modern life in
Western culture, respectively. Charming and endearing, the characters
confront issues of relationships, family, religion, love, romance and
interfaith marriage. August 1 The Lives of Others 7:00pm (Das
Leben der Anderen) von Donnersmarck Germany 2006 (R)
2hr.17min.Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film 2006 as well as many
other prestigious awards, this political thriller and human drama
begins in East Berlin in 1984, five years before Glasnost and the fall
of the Berlin wall. It ultimately takes us to 1991 and what is now
reunited Germany. The film traces the gradual disillusionment of
Captain Gerd Wiesler, a highly skilled officer who works for the Stasi,
East Germany’s powerful secret police. His mission is to spy on a
celebrated writer and actress couple. Von Donnersmarck’s movie debut
focuses on the horrifying, gripping and sometimes unintentionally
funny system of observation in the former East Germany.

New York City’s own Judy Barnett received her seventh MAC Award at this year’s MAC Awards Show, held at B. B. King Blues Club, on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Ms. Barnett, a 20-time nominee over the last decade in various categories, ranging from Jazz Vocalist, to Singer/Songwriter, Song of the Year, CD of the Year and Major Jazz Vocalist, walked away with her seventh Award at the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs’ annual event. ORLEANS, LA - New Orleans jazz vocalist Stephanie Jordan & 6
other divas has been selected to appear on the cover of latest
volume of World Who's Who in Jazz. "Ms. Stephanie Jordan in
her silk green dress catches your eyes. She reminds me of the
flashy dashy days of Josephine Baker at the Lido in Paris.
Ms. Jordan toured Europe and the United States on many occasions
and enjoyed an enormous success" writes the London Monthly
Herald.
In a paragraph of the book, the author referred to her as "The
classy lady of modern Jazz!" Times Square Press and The
Federation of American Musicians, Singers and Performing Artists
(FAMSPA) just published knockout is a masterpiece encyclopedic
work on world showbiz and entertainment.. Showbiz, Pioneers,
Best Musicians, Singers and Entertainers From 1606 to the
Present, the Volume IV of the series World Who's Who in Jazz,
Cabaret, Music and Entertainment is authored by
Maximillien de Lafayette, an authority in the field. It is
overwhelming, magnificently written, and abundant with
biographies of stars and rising talents from the five corners of
the globe, and majestically illustrated. Over 800 photos
including vintage, era and rare pictures of stars, pioneers and
divas of various golden eras of Jazz and cabaret in Europe and
the United States.
Peggy Judy is on the front cover; Antoinette Montague, Maria
Gentile, Zola, Katie Bull, Stephanie Jordan, Irene Soderberg and
Nichaud Fitzgibbon on the back cover. Carol Lexter associate

Stephanie Jordan's next big engagement is at
the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during the 12th
Annual Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival on
Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. However, New Orleans jazz
lovers can catch her during the final week of Jazz Fest on
Saturday, May 5, 2007, 9:00 pm. at The Music Tent on
Claiborne, 1518 North Claiborne Avenue at an event
sponsored by Cutting Edge Music Business Institute.
Stephanie Jordan "sets hearts aflutter" says All About Jazz.
"She's a singer with poise and pizzazz, with a voice and an
appealing look that bring to mind Carmen McRae and Lena Horne."
Jordan's lyrical style has also been compared to Norah Jones and
Diana Krall, while others say it evokes living legends Cassandra
Wilson and Dianne Reeves. She was introduced to many new fans when
she appeared on "Higher Ground," the Jazz at Lincoln Center
concert for Hurricane Katrina relief hosted by Wynton Marsalis
less than three weeks after the Katrina disaster that devastated
New Orleans. Her rendition of "Here's to Life" was selected from
that concert for the Blue Note Records' Higher Ground CD.
Ms. Jordan who has been living in Maryland since hurricane Katrina
is the fifth performer to emerge from a family of New Orleans bred
musicians which includes her father, saxophonist Edward "Kidd
Jordan", and siblings flutist Kent, violinist Rachel, and
trumpeter Marlon Jordan who will accompany her for this
performance. She and Marlon toured as "U.S. Jazz Ambassadors"
on behalf of the U.S. State Department to Germany, Romania,
Lithuania, and Ukraine in the fall of 2006 to thank the people of
Europe for their help with hurricane relief. Stephanie and
Marlon's CD, You Don't Know What Love Is has been
highly acclaimed. Her performance on Kent Jordan's Out of This
World album has been equally received. Stephanie has performed
at Jazz Standard New York, the Kennedy Center, Marians Jazzroom in
Bern, Switzerland, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and on NPR
Talk of the Nation among others.
Stephanie Jordan has
recorded a commissioned piece for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation
of "Come Rain or Come Shine" which is being used as
background music for a series of television and radio promotions
advancing the availability of assistance for those who may be
suffering from post- disaster distress as a result of hurricanes
Katrina and Rita. The campaign is part of the "InCourage"
partnership; a healing initiative by the Baton Rouge Area
Foundation. Both pieces include a narration by noted New Orleans'
Chef Leah Chase.
