Winehouse leads Mojo
award race

Winehouse, who was named best British female artist at the Brit Awards earlier this year, is followed by the Arctic Monkeys with two nods. The Sheffield band are shortlisted for best song and best live act, where they face veteran rock group The Who. Bob Dylan's US chart topper Modern Times is in the running for best album. Reader of Mojo magazine and users of their website handed two nominations to Texas rock group Midlake, in the best album and breakthrough act categories. Other nominees in the song of the year category are The Gossip for Standing In The Way of Control and Scottish band The View for Same Jeans. Singer Johnny Cash is posthumously nominated for catalogue release of the year, for the reissue of his 1969 concert at San Quentin. This is his second nomination in a row in the category, while he gained two further nods in last year's shortlist. The Mojo awards ceremony will take place in London on 18 June, at which the magazine will bestow a number of honors including the Hall of Fame and lifetime achievement awards. Editor-in-chief Phil Alexander said of Amy Winehouse: "Now the sky is the limit for her. There is nothing that can stop her apart from herself."
Hazzard car $10m offer is
'hoax'
A Dukes of Hazzard car owned by one of the US TV show's
stars is going back on sale after an eBay bid of more than $9.9m (£5m) was
revealed as a hoax. John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, now plans to
sell his 1969 Dodge Charger with another auction company that strictly screens
buyers. Allen Stockman, who runs the actor's Agoura Hills estate, said
Schneider may also attempt to sue the bidder. "He deserves to be hit in the
pocketbook," Mr. Stockman said.
The winning bidder, who was identified as William Fisher on his
eBay page, could not be reached. Officially, all eBay bids are legally binding
contracts, and users agree to pay for any item they win. But there are no
background checks and members who fail to pay for items are not fined. If they
continue to violate the system, they could be banned from the site. EBay
spokeswoman Catherine England told the Associated Press: "There are all sorts
of reasons a transaction may fall through, and we have a claims process for
both buyer and seller." Once the bidding escalated, the company said it
contacted Schneider and recommended he only accept bids from pre-qualified
eBay customers who could confirm financing and provide other details. Stockman
said he did not have the time for credit or background checks by the time he
was alerted to this. The car was not used in the original series but is signed
by the cast and did appear in a Hazzard film. The previous eBay record was
$4.9m for a private jet several years ago.
Sir Tom joins
Diana concert bill
Sir Tom Jones and rapper P Diddy are among the artists
who have joined the bill for the Princess Diana memorial concert at Wembley
Stadium on 1 July. Singer Will Young and Canadian star Nelly Furtado have
also been added to the line-up at the event which will celebrate the
Princess's life. Roger Hodgson of the band Supertramp - said to have been one
of Diana's favorites - will also perform. Sir Elton John, Take That and Lily
Allen have already been confirmed.
Kanye West, Duran Duran, Status Quo, Rod Stewart, Pharrell
Williams and Joss Stone are to appear at the concert as well. A performance by
the English National Ballet and a medley of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music will
also be on the running order. It has been organized by Prince William and
Prince Harry to mark the 10th anniversary of their mother's death. 1 July
would have been Diana's 46th birthday, and the concert has been described by
the princes as "the best birthday present she ever had". They are expected to
appear on stage during the five-hour event. The first 22,500 tickets for the
concert sold out in minutes when they went on sale in December, and a further
10,000 tickets were released in April. The show will also be broadcast live to
millions of television viewers around the world.
